Structural, Optical, Mechanical and Antibacterial Properties of MgO/Poly(Vinyl Acetate)/Poly(Vinyl Chloride) Nanocomposites

Abstract Polymeric blends and nanocomposites with improved functional properties have attracted attention worldwide for industrial applications. For food packaging applications carrying purposes, the materials to be used should UV blocking ability, antibacterial activity, good mechanical properties. In this study, polyvinyl acetate (PVAc)/polyvinyl chloride (PVC) optimized MgO/PVAc/PVC polymer (PNCs) were prepared by solution casting evaporation. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed complexation miscibility between PVAc PVC their interaction MgO nanoparticles (NP). X-ray diffraction HR-TEM analyses showed phase purity of NP a crystallite size ~ 18.8 nm dispersion in amorphous regions blend without affecting structure each other. UV–vis-NIR revealed that band gap can tuned changing added ratio polymer, loading increased semiconducting behavior blend. Various optical constants such as refractive index, absorption parameters been evaluated. The composition effects content on stress–strain studied. addition enhanced tensile modulus strength.
